Description
Velcro hook and loop fasteners are some of the most well-known and widely used fasteners on the market because of their versatility and ease of use. These fasteners consist of two components: two fabric strips with opposite surfaces. One surface has tiny hooks and the second has many tiny loops. When pressed together, the tiny hooks catch into the tiny loops and the two fabric strips bind together with a strong hold. They can then be easily separated by pulling or peeling the two pieces apart. This will create their characteristic “ripping” sound. The strength of the bond between the hook and loop depends on how well the hook is embedded in the loops and how much surface area contact there is between the two surfaces.
Velcro hook and loop fasteners have a wide variety of uses and applications when a temporary bond is needed. This includes:
- Replacing zippers in cushion covers and slip covers.
- Replacing buttons and zippers in clothing.
- Wrapping electronic cords and wires together for a clean workstation.
- Bundle fishing poles and golf clubs together for easy transportation.
- Holding items to walls such as picture frames.
- Bond car floor mats to keep them from moving around.
- Open and close backpacks, notebooks, pockets, and hold disposable diapers in place.
- Can be used when pleating draperies, holding carpets in place, and attaching Upholstery.
Advantages:
- Quick and easy to use, safe, and maintenance-free.
- Maintains a strong hold that will stay closed when weight is applied.
- Maintains its hold for many fastenings and unfastening’s.
- Can be cut to custom sizes for versatile uses.
Tips to increase the bond between the two surfaces:
- Increase the surface area of the bond by putting strips side by side to increase the unit area.
- Make sure the force of the strips is applied parallel to the plane of the surface being fastened.
