Description
In upholstery, rubber webbing is an excellent webbing material because of its strength, durability, and flexibility. Its durability will hold up to heavy use and will not easily tear or break. It is often used in place of jute webbing. Jute webbing tends to stretch and sink, creating a hammock effect over time. Rubber webbing does not have this issue, returning to its original position after being sat on without the sag or dipping that’s created by jute webbing. This webbing also provides a springy feel without the need to use coil springs themselves.
Ideal for dining room chair seating, this webbing offers a springy, soft, and comfortable feel. In comparison, a solid board would provide a hard feel that people would consider uncomfortable. This webbing does stretch over time like any rubber so the seat tends to become softer over time to the point where the webbing has fully stretched out. This creates a “toilet bowl” effect when sat upon. Like all rubber, the webbing does dry out and crack over decades of use to the point where it will require replacement.
Because it is made of rubber, this type of webbing is more expensive than jute webbing. As such, manufacturers use a commercial-grade rubber webbing that is inferior to webbing produced by Pirelli, a well-known tire company, who produces excellent quality rubber. Foamonline offers premium Pirelli rubber webbing.
